Reframing Whisky Through Artistic Heritage

Can whisky cross creative boundaries and be regarded as a contemporary art form? KANDOBLANC was born out of Dhavall Gandhi’s desire to answer this very question.

A renowned, award-winning whiskymaker recognised for his pioneering expertise in the whisky world, Dhavall has held pivotal roles at The Macallan and the Lakes Distillery. KANDOBLANC is Dhavall’s avant-garde venture, where whisky is the medium of his artistic expression.

Since 2008, an idea had been quietly forming in Dhavall’s mind, finding its expression in the pages of his notebooks, the two words KANDO and BLANC. KANDO, a Japanese term for the simultaneous feelings of deep satisfaction and intense excitement felt when encountering exceptional beauty. BLANC, the French for white, symbolising purity, excellence and perfection in Indian mythology.

 KANDOBLANC AGA

At the heart of KANDOBLANC lies a mission: to champion the finest finest artisans and artists, serving as a beacon for the preservation of cultural and artistic heritage. Through considered collaboration with artisans across the globe, KANDOBLANC endeavour to magnify traditional techniques and art forms which are in danger of disappearing.

KANDOBLANC unveiled its inaugural creation, AGA, at the Distillers One of One charity auction, in partnership with Sotheby’s. AGA marked Dhavall’s debut as a creator overseeing every aspect of the creative process, from the liquid composition of rare Scotch whiskies distilled in 1979 to the intricate details of the bespoke object incorporating kintsugi and Battuto techniques. KANDOBLANC’s ‘Bespoke’ offering grants patrons the opportunity to personalise their unique object based on the AGA architecture.

Throughout the Special Commission process, a one of a kind piece of art and whisky composition is created to represent an individual’s life, family and journey in this world.

Holding a unique place in the world of whisky and art, and with their website launching soon, jetlogic are waiting with bated breath to see what KANDOBLANC create next.

Reopening of Scotland’s “Ghost” Distilleries

The rare whisky market skyrocketed in recent years, with “ghost” distilleries playing a key role in bringing back to life exclusive blends. The revival of the famous “ghost” distilleries of Port Ellen and Brora were a crucial part of Diageo’s £185 million investment in Scotch whisky tourism.

With a long-standing history in Scotland, Port Ellen reopened its doors in a historic moment for the Isle of Islay. After more than 40 years of closure, Port Ellen was reborn in March, with short public tours and immersive private experiences available to book from June 2024.
